It was late in his senior year at Pitt and Marc Reisman was leaving the gym one evening when two kids walked up to him and asked “Mister do you want to buy a harmonica?” He thought why not? and gave them a few dollars. Soon he bought an instruction book and began buying records the author suggested. This impulse purchase sparked a half-century musical career that we’re celebrating on October 26 at the Thunderbird Cafe and Music Hall. The concert will feature Reisman performing with musicians from throughout his career.

As a member of the Houserockers, Reisman shared the stage many times with Bruce Springsteen, and he’s opened for such musical legends as Muddy Waters, Patti Smith, Ozzy Osbourne, Ian Hunter, J. Geils Band, The Outlaws, and Meatloaf.

For several years, Reisman hosted a weekly late night radio show on WYEP-FM with his Houserockers brother Art Nardini. They shared the mic with guests such as the Ramones, Talking Heads, and the Police.

After Reisman departed the Houserockers, he taught blues harmonica for Pittsburgh folk music organization Calliope, Pitt and CCAC, fronted the Pep Boys, a rockin’ blues band, and played and recorded with a number of artists, including Ernie Hawkins, singer/songwriter/guitarist Peter King and Jill West & Blues Attack.

Currently, Reisman continues to play and record with a wide range of musicians performing original music, from rock to rhythm & blues to singer/songwriter and country.

Come see what Marc Reisman The First 50 Years is all about at the Thunderbird on October 26 as he performs with Billy Price, Bill Toms and Hard Rain, Ernie Hawkins, Peter King, Wil Kondrich, Jon Bindley’s Bindley Hardware Co., Melinda Colaizzi and The Night Sky, and Joe Grushecky and The Houserockers. Join your host, executive producer Zeke, and music director Rick Witkowski, for an epic evening celebrating this milestone event!
